Watch the personal testimonies of project participants developed by Banco da Providência.
GEORGINA'S FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE
Georgina came to the project with severe depression after a 20 years’ marriage separation. She and her daughter lived solely on her husband's pension. On her daughter's insistence Georgina applied for the Housekeeping Workshop. The important partnership with the IBIS Hotel enabled Georgina to take an internship. She got hired shortly after.
Her first day of work was on September 7, 2017, the day she achieved financial independence.
THE FAMILY TIES OF LUIZ CLAUDIO
Luiz Claudio lives in Cidade de Deus (City of God), is married and has six children, one of them involved with drugs. The family income came from his wife's work. On his way home, he saw the poster for the free Refrigeration Mechanics Workshop. He was unsure, but later realized the importance of the classes for his training. He finished the Entrepreneurship program. Received the toolkit, invested in promoting and started his business. The relationship with the family has improved and today his son works with him.
CRISTIANE, THE ENTREPRENEUR
Cristiane is the head of the family with six children and lived off odd jobs to generate income when she joined the project. She even rented a beauty salon in the community where she lives, but was not qualified to serve customers. She saw an opportunity in the free Hairdressing Workshop of Banco da Providência. She trained in hairdressing, mega hair and entrepreneurship. She received a toolkit with beauty products and with the acquired knowledge of techniques on how to manage her own business, her beauty salon is now her family’s main income generator.
Rodrigo Teodoro became homeless due to conflicts with the community and family, caused by drug abuse and involvement with local drug traffickers.
During the 9-month period that he stayed in the Emmaus Rodrigo Agency project, he got all his documents, returned to school and attended the mutual aid group N.A.
In March 2017, with his addiction under control, Rodrigo has now a formal employment.
